Hi,
I have a printer [canon BJC-250] connected to Windows-95 in my network. Can anybody tell me how to use this printer if I want to print documents through Linux. My linux is Mandrake 7.0.
I tried configuring printer using Drakeconf. I gave the correct ip address of the print server. But it did not work.
I am able to ping the print server from my linux machine and able to telnet to linux from that windows machine.
I am giving the correct ip of print server [192.168.0.3] and correct sharename of the printer. But it still doesnot work. Can anybody suggest me how to configure in such a case.
Also, I did not find my printer type [BJC-250] in the listing. Is this printer a non-standard/undervalued printer [It came when I bought the machine]. I am asking this because I could not find the driver for this printer for Linux OS.
Thanks in advance for your help

How much you want to spend?

I don't know if theres another answer to this problem (seems like there should be) but if you can't find one you might like to know Microsoft has a Unix compatibility server now, theyll probably charge lots for it, and will it work on a 95 OS?... (probably not)

Worth a look? up to you....

hope u find your way quickly

 for pint$ = 1 to 20
for pint$ = pint$ + 1
if pint$ = 20 goto HOME
next pint$

Windows is not a print server...

at least not in the *nix lpd sense.
assuming that you have the printer "shared" on the w95 machine and samba installed on your linux machine, you would then have to set up your /etc/printcap file to use it as a local printer with a print driver or "if=" entry of smbprint. there are some howtos available on how to set this up but i don't remember where they are at the moment.

Hi,

You can do this as long as you have samba installed on linux. You just specify a smb printer and give the unc in the config. If you are using cups there is info here --> . Otherwise, look for something in the print setup that refers to smb or samba.

You won't get a windoze printer responding to lpr unless it has lpr/lpd software installed on the winbox. You could try installing the print monitor from axis - . That's really designed for their print servers but I seem to recall it magically added lpr support to windows as well.

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. Sometimes we try to explore just based on our knowledge.
Infincham, I downloaded the axis utility for monitoring printer but I could not set up my Cannon-BJC-250 Printer. Can you pls throw some more light onto how to use this printer [on 192.168.0.6 at port 1234] by the linux machines.
Your help is greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
