Hello,

We need to tie two LAN's together that are many km apart. We can establish a 128 Kbps connection between them using modems. One of the sites is in a very remote area, so we can't connect via the Internet. A satellite link is expensive.

What do we need to tie two LAN's together using modems ? Some ethernet routers support a modem to dial the Internet, but I don't know if the routers can be used back-to-back to connect to each other.

Thank you.

How have you set up the 128Kbps link?

Why can't you use the internet? ...and if you can't use the internet, how are routers that can dial the internet going to help?

Using your modems to connect to an ISP at either end and then setting up a VPN would seem the easiest way.

Other than that, I suppose you could set up you own Remote Access server somewhere and have your modems dial into it, then route between them, but that'd be pretty complicated, I would have thought (having never tried it...)
