How to use Notes to manage files.

I have thousands of CAD drawing files and would like to build a database to manage them. Many are used on a daily basis and, for technical reasons, need to be stored as files on a server disk ie not attached to the Notes record.

Does Notes have any clever ways of linking the data files to Notes records such that agents can be used to manage the files themselves using the Notes field data?

Notes has a document library template that would seem to be what you are looking for. Actually they have three, one specialized for office, one for smartsuite and a plain one.

You may be able tomodify one to fit your needs, if you cant use it straight off the server.
