Hi everyone,

I am trying to use HSRP on two of my 7206 routers, but I would like not to order an T1 line for my WAN connection? Is there a way that I can use my one T1 line on both routers...i.e with some sort of splitter????

Would appreciate your assistance.

Seriously though, check out They got tons of stuff in there. Go to the "Product Listing" section and search for "T1 MUX". Multiplexers are a common piece in any shared fiber/copper install. With a T1, 2 routers and a MUX you can easily set up an effective HSRP, load balanced config. Regards,

Don

I had one more question for you RouterGod. I am wondering whether it is a kinda unusual to use HSRP for WAN connection cuz all the examples I've come across refer to Ethernet.

Thanks

HSRP isn't particular about what the external interfaces are, i.e. whether you connected to the internet via serial, ATM, ISND, etc.

The examples you are refering to include ethernet for one specific reason: HSRP can only provide automatic router backup when you configure it on Cisco routers that run a routed protocol over Ethernet, Fiber Distributed Date Interface (FDDI), and Token Ring local-area networks (LANs). HSRP is compatible with Novell's Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX), AppleTalk, and Banyan VINES, and it is compatible with DECnet and Xerox Network Systems (XNS) in certain configurations.

HSRP simply needs a LAN to pass HSRP info back and forth i.e. "hello" packets.

I'm sure if you'd like to see some example configs from real situations there would be a lot of us happy to post them, or willing to build yours.

Regards,

Don
