how to use E-Mail

i got a problem, i made an e-mail 'sender' i guess youd call it, with BCB5 and the SMTP component. my problem is that when i try 2 send it, it says it can't connect. this problem seems to be reoccuring in all my net-related programs. I made a chat program, but it would only work @ my school, on the network. I've been told something about how the programs are dependant on a network, and not the internet or something like that.

is there any way i could fix it to work off of the internet or at least get it to work without the network?! im really desperate!! Cyprus

There are a lot of possibilities for this Fault:

1. The Internet connection (via RAS or LAN, Passwords etc.)
2. The configuration of your mailboxes

I have written a SMTP-Client which works.
