Hi all. I've longed used ASA for Audix and PBX's but I am not needing to connect to different Octel systems.

The Octel system I am trying to connect to today is via dial up. I have created a generic connection with VT100 emulation. I have entered the phone number and ###5 and the modems attempt to start negotiating, but then just disconnect.

I have my hardware set to 8/N/1/no flow control.

what am i missing? I've searched for help on this from Google, Avaya, and on here but only found a few threads from this forum which didn't really give me any specific help here.

Thanks in advance for any help here.

To setup a modem connection between your PC and the OCTEL 200/300 and VMX-100/200/300, use the follwing setup:
1200 (or 9600) bit/second, one (1) databit, one stopbit and EVEN parity. Also use the BELL mode function in your modem, that could be of the Hayes type or Lasat STM24 (or 336 Voice).
So, just change your setup to 7/E/1 and Bell Mode.
Dial your costumer's OCTEL - voice mail group number and press ###5.
Or use the AT commands: ATDTxxxxxxx,,,,###5
Where the "x" are the telephone number and the commas (,) works like making a pause. Use 3 to commas (,) and adjust this for each af the OCTELs to dial up.
Let me know if these guidelines do not work!

doktor,

yes these configurations work. I actually fumbled around and got it working last night after i swapped modem's. I forgot the first modem i was using had a bad firmware on it.(external USR)

now that I'm in I need to do basic MAC's for user mailboxes. Is there a quick guide to this anywhere?

I went into U and I'm at the . prompt. I did ? for help. I did a list table all (big mistake, took forever to run)

I just need a few basic commands to get me going and I can fill in the rest over time.

Much thanks!

Gibsonic,

I don't know any links connecting you to more knowledge about commands, but usually a few commands do the trick.

Log on and get the @-prompt.
Enter "U" for update.
Then you get the .-prompt.

.a user --> add user. (e.g. 1200,0).
Enter the mailbox number and the COS value. Class of service.

.d user --> deletes a user. (e.g. 1200).
Enter the mailbox number and press enter.

.m user s
Resets the mailbox number's passowrd to the default value.
(Could be 1234).

Log off by entering "e" for exit.

Search for my elder threads in this forum.
I have written several "inputs" here!
Best regards
