how to use a telnet or ssh client through an HTTP proxy?

i don't believe you can use telnet or ssh through a HTTP proxy.
i have a telnet client that uses a SOCKS proxy (delegate) and there was a telnet proxy in that as well ... but because an HTTP proxy trys connecting, sending messages and closing the link it isn't made for getting shells to communicate.
can you get them to add other proxies?
