I have a problem with DSS and I really hope you can help me with that. In many, many circumstances I found myself in front of the same problem. A problem that is difficult even to describe: how to create a filter that does not ignore the part of the data that doesn't match the filter criteria.
The only way to explain this better is through an example. Let's look at the data on the attached image. Let's immagine that I have to count among all the reservations that have beauty items, the ones that also have apparel items.
If I filter the data using a filter "Item Group = Beauty", I can not then use in cascade the filter "Item Group = Apparel" because after the first filter the only data left is Beauty (picture 3). I would obviously have the same problem if I use a filter: "Item Group = Beauty" AND "Item Group = Apparel".
I found different versions of this problem almost every week. The common denominator is always: how can I select/mark the reservations using a filter, and yet not ignoring the part of the reservations that don't match the filter criteria?
There is only one way that has worked for me so far: using reports as filters. I create a report that lists all the reervations that have beauty, save it and use it as filter in a second report. That way the first report only passes the list of reservations to the second report, ignoring the filter limitations.
The problem with this tecnique is that it can not be used with very large sets of data and in many occasions I had to create multiple reports (up to more than 100) to fragment the data. I can not use it now.
I am also sure that there must be a more elegant, fast and proper way to solve the problem. I just need to find it
Any suggestion will be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Lele
