Hello everyone,

How can I upgrade my kde to 3.0.4 on redhat 7.0

NO, i dont want to upgrade to 8.0

Thanks all

i just upgraded on 7.2 using the contributed packages on Basically I downloaded everything, then did

rpm -qa|grep kde|xargs rpm -e \;

as root. This generated a lot of errors pertaining to libraries. Trying to be careful, I copied whatever libraries I thought I would need (ex. cp -pdvR libkssl.o* ~/tmp). I then removed all kde packages, including qt, then installed the new kde packages. To minimize rpm hell, after removing all kde packages, i ran

rpm -Uvh --test *.rpm

in the directory where i downloaded the new kde, to make sure i had all of my dependencies. The only ones i didn't bother to satisfy were gphoto and the new RPM.
BTW, I upgraded to KDE 3.0.3 and it works great on my RH box. If you have any apps needing the old libraries (my kinkatta wanted some of the kde 2.2.2 libraries), just copy them back from ~/tmp.

Dear jaymzter,

Excellent,
But how do I know which libraries I need and where they are.

there are just too many lib directories

Please let me the detail of the steps you followed

Many many thanks

Also how can I remove the kde packages,
When running your command it says the libraries are needed by some of the appliaton.
So I backed up the libs, now where are the apps to remove?

Do I have to remove them one by one from the /usr/bin?

Thanks much

I backedup the libraries and I think I removed the old kde (but not sure, how would I know where they are )

Now when I try to run the rpm -Uvh testapp.rpm

in the rpm directory where the new kde is I get a tone of these messages.
