Hi,

I have a pretty simple question, but cannot seem to find any solid answers on a google search for it nor on the apache website. I have Apache/2.0.49 for windows and wanted to upgrade it to Apache/2.0.52. I noticed there are patch files on the apache site as well as the source code and msi installer. My original installation was from the msi installer. Given that I am not a server wiz, what's the best way for me to upgrade?

Also I noticed in the main distribution center of files where Apache recommends I download the files from, all the files for 2.0.52 have the words "no_ssl" in their title. If this means that there is no_ssl in that version, is their a way to get ssl for a windows version?

One last question: In that same directory there is a file called apache_2.0.52-win32-x86-symbols.zip What exactly does this file contain (I am assuming it contains symbols, but I don't quite understand what that means)?

I don't quite feel comfortable yet playing around with upgrading so any any help/direction would be much appreciated.

I forgot to mention a couple of things.

I want to keep all the customizations in my apache configuration. Also, I have no problem using the command line if it makes things easier. Thats about it, and PLEASE HELP.

Bump...

I'd also like some help with upgrading Apache for Windows...

Any help out there?

Thanks

The best way to upgrade if you are not wanting to take the original server offline is to run the new version on a different port. Get everything setup the way you want it and test it. When you feel comfortable that you have everything working, switch the ports in the httpd.conf for the newer version, stop the original and start the new one.

If you want to keep the same path as you had before, switch the paths in the config file when you change the ports.

If you have any problems, you just need to start the original version again.

Hope this helps
