We are running MAS 90 version 3.41 and would like to know has anyone upgraded to the new version and what problems they had after upgrading. Or is there any documentation that comes with cd's that I over looked.

I have alot prolems with the current version and hope that by upgrading it will take care of these problem.
My problems lie alot in purchase order and not keeping accurate track of our inventory.

I want to be able to keep on the same setting and little downtime.

What I am hoping on doing is upgrading on a backup version first before I do it on the live production copy .
Please advise.

Martin

Hi there, I hope I have some helpful info for you. About a year ago we upgraded from 3.41 to 3.51. The first step was to make a copy of the entire Mas 90 directory (like you have planned). You might have trouble copying some of the files (like the keycode.dll file). For this, you will need to grant yourself full access, and possibly even take ownership of the file. Next, on the test server, I installed 3.51 on that copy using the Mas 90 CD. (Be sure to select to install all the modules that you need.)

If you are not using Mas 90 out of the box, and have had modifications written for it, you will need to reinstall those also. E-mail me and I can give you more info: jamor1999@yahoo.com.

Otherwise, you can continue on and activate all the companies by going into Library Master/Company Maintenance. You may receive an error after activation related to some.soa file. If you do, just go in and activate all the companies (if you have multiple company codes) one by one rather than all of them at once. At the very end, you should receive this .soa file error and it shouldn't be a problem. If you're worried anyway, you might want to contact outside technical support.

Then, you will probably want to install Crystal Reports 8.0. This should be a breeze.

Remember, if you do have modifications, you will have to speak to the programmers who wrote the mods for your company.

Also, you should keep in mind that a lot of preference and system settings will have to be reset. If you get a question that sounds like you may just need to readjust the settings for that particular module, company, etc, take a look at the File/Preferences and the setup options in the module in question.

I hope this will serve as some guide for you. And don't worry, it wasn't too difficult of an upgrade. And be sure you find a way to get people to test out the test upgrade for at least a month before you dive right in. You might find bugs! I know we had plenty! But we also had a lot of mods...

I'm sorry, one thing I forgot to mention: I believe that you will have to do the upgrade in increments. I vaguely recall speaking with outside technical support for Mas 90 and I believe he recommended I upgrade to the next version one step up and continue to upgrade until we're current. We're planning a 3.61 upgrade for the end of this year. And I hate to admit it, but I noticed little difference from version to version. I see the same bugs as before :(
