I have Acrobat V6.0 Pro on my laptop and would like to get rid of it as I used it in connection with an old job. Since I do not have access to the install disks anymore, does anyone know how I can remove this software? Each time I try to remove from ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS I get the error:

The path 'Adobe Acrobat 6.0: Disk 1' cannot be found

Any help with this one would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

If Windows doesn't remove Acrobat (for example, it returns an error), perform one of the following tasks:

-- Reinstall Acrobat to the same folder and then complete these steps again.

-- Manually remove Acrobat.

Removing Acrobat manually

You can remove Acrobat from the system by deleting the Acrobat folders and files, and associated folders and files, manually.

Note: Performing the following steps also removes Adobe Reader 6.0.x, if it's installed.

To remove Acrobat manually:

1. Quit Acrobat.

2. Move any documents (for example, PDF documents) you want to keep from the Acrobat 6.0 folder to another folder.

3. Enable Windows Explorer to display all file name extensions (for example, filename.ini). (By default, Windows Explorer hides filename extensions it recognizes. For instructions on how to enable Windows Explorer to display filename extensions, see the Notes section of the "Display hidden files and folders" topic in Windows Help.)

4. Restart the computer to ensure that Windows isn't using any of the files you want to delete.

5. End the AcroTray.exe process from the Windows Task Manager:

a. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and then click Task Manager in the Windows Security dialog box.

b. Click the Processes tab, select AcroTray.exe, and then click End Process.

c. Click Yes in the Task Manager Warning dialog box.

d. Close Task Manager.

6. Delete Acrobat Assistant from Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

7. In Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Distillr, locate adistres.dll and rename it adistres.old.

8. Locate AcroDistDLL.dll and rename it AcroDistDLL.old.

9. Restart the computer.

10. Delete Acrobat 6.0 from Program Files\Adobe. If you can't delete PDF.ocx, complete the following procedure:

a. Choose Start > Run, type cmd in the Open text field of the Run dialog box, and then click OK.

b. On the first command line of the Command Prompt window, type cd [ path name to ActiveX folder ] , and then press Enter. For example,

cd "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Acrobat\ActiveX"

c. At the prompt, type regsvr32 /u PDF.ocx and then press Enter. For example, the line might read:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Acrobat\ActiveX>regsvr32 /u PDF.ocx

d. Close the Command Prompt window, and then restart the computer.
