I have been trying to unblock port 25 when sending email. I have had this issue using Windows 2K and I have seen this problem appearing on a friend’s computer using Win XP professional. I am running a cable modem with all the service packs from Microsoft (critical). I have a valid IP, No proxy setting, nor a firewall. My virus application is MacAfee. I am not able to send email thought using Outlook Express or Netscape. I disabled the virus application as a test, still will not send mail. The provider is not experiencing any mail problems. My question, is there a fix for this, possibly a registry key that might cause this? Any help would definitely be appreciated.

TIA

How do you know that this port is not working?
Are you sure that you have configured the correct pop3 settings?
Can you connect to the internet?
Can you configure your mail on another PC?

POP3 settings are fine as I am able to retreive mail. SMTP on port 25 is the problem. I am able to access my email from another pc using OE and Eudora.

I tried to telnet to their mail server and that did not work. I also tried to telnet to to "mx1.hotmail.com" and that also did not work.

Before we get into the myriad of possibilities, why can you not send e-mail? Exactly what happens when you try? What's the error message? Are trying to send through a hotmail account?

Ok, Internet works fine. ISP is not having any type of issue. I am trying to use an email account through my home pc.
I have a valid IP.
I can pop the mail.
I can not send mail using multiple applications (OE, Netscape, and Eudora).
Settings are configured fine; I even tried by IP for the mail server.
My account does work on another computer.

I am unable to telnet to mail.domain.net 25, even though that should work. ISP does not block telnet to port 25.

I even tried to telnet to "mx1.hotmail.com 25" as another test to make certain that the ISP was not blocking. Still did not work.

Each time I tried, I received connection lost. When attempting to send mail, I get all sorts of error message ranging from connection to server terminated ect.

I have used Ad Aware already and ran all the updates for this app. Including Norton and Microsoft. I will give it a try.
