I have been thrown in the deep end with ID2 and I cannot work out how to turn off the borders around text boxes and graphics. Or can't it be done? I would really like to view the layout - without resorting to PDF - without all the clutter.

Have you explored the View menu to change your view of the document?

Look at the 2 little boxes at the very bottom of the Tools pallette. The one on the laft is Normal (boxes). The one on the right is Preview (what you want). It's easy to switch between the 2 as necessary.

the right one has a fly out for selection of bleed and slug as well as preview, so make sure preview is active.

jimoblak - I certainly HAD explored every item under the view menu, without any joy.

jmgalvin - THANK YOU!!! I think one of the problems is that for some reason my toolbar runs horizontally, so the right hand end is often off-screen as I try and get it out of the way. I have tried to position it vertically by dragging it to the edges of the screen, but it stays vertical. Any other little magic tip?

It's OK - I found out how to change the orientation of the toolbox.

Joy would be found under View menu>Hide Frame Edges.

I don't recall seeing that option, as I am sure it would have made sense. However, that little button (now on the BOTTOM of my toolbar) is as good a way as any.

If you are using a Mac - (command h) hides the text boxes and (command ;) hides the guides. I'm not sure this will work on windows, but it propable will.
