I find this helpctr.exe process consuming lots of CPU and want to turn it off.

Also msmsgs.exe keeps putting itself into my startup list.

(New XP install, no infection).

How can I disable these two?

Thanks!

...or, Click Start > Run > type in services.msc[/]

Scroll through the list and find Help and Support and Messenger, respectively. Right click on either and stop the service.

Posting before I finish a thought...disable the service by selecting Properties, then disabling on the General tab...

The other method to uninstall it completely,
Go to Start > Run, then type in this and run it. (one Line)

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Help and Support would be better fixed than disabling or removing it completely. If you don't want it to run don't click on Help and Support.
