Every time a user prints all users on the server gets a spooler notification message pop up. I have looked every where but can not see how to turn this off. Does any one know.

Thanks

faq48-544 :)

Just follow the URL to TheThin.net - it'll take you straight to the list of printing issues, of which this is #1!

The FAQ advises registry hacks - these should be unnecessary. Go to to Start,Settings, Printers. Highlight Add Printer then select File,Server Properties. Use the Advanced tab to make the change. Untick 'Notify when remote documents are printed'. Note that we use TCP/IP printing via the PDC, change needs to be made there too.

Did the change in server properties, thanks.

I am interested in your comment "we use TCP/IP printing via the PDC". How does one do this. Is this done by creating network printers on the PDC and then sharing it.

We have two actual network printers (all other printers are connected to the back of NT Workstations) and at the moment I have created queues on the Citrix servers to look after these. Is there reasons for moving these away from the Citrix server? Even if a queue is not set up on the Citrix server, I still need to have the drivers loaded.

I agree, wilsona. Reg hacks are best avoided. Thanks for that tip.

In answer to the 2nd part of your question, chifu, yes - if the queue is on a separate server (recommended, although I wouldn't necessarily choose the PDC), then you will need to have drivers loaded on the MetaFrame server(s).

I hope this helps

Yes - you can use a separate server (doesn't need Metaframe, only NT server). You install the Micrososft TCP/IP printing network service on all servers. You then create LPR print queues queues on the print server machine. You then create local queues on your application servers using the UNC name when creating the LOCAL port. You have to be aware of bandwidth issues between the print server and the printer, as Word documents, for example, can generate a lot of network traffic.
