how to trace an image

Hi,

I have various illustrated images, some are colour others are black and white. They range in image type bmp,jpeg etc etc.

As they are illustrated they lose quality when i scale up or down too much. Is it possible to trace these somehow in illustrator (or another package) so that they are vector (or another format that can handle size changes well).

I have played around with live trace but as yet have not had any real success.

If you're not having much luck with live trace, then your best bet is probably to outline it by hand using the pen tool.

Hi, newish girl here. I'm trying to use the eraser tool to erase excess background from a flower I cut out. What is a better way to erase background and get a nice edge on say, the stem, without having to have a magic- steady hand using the eraser?
