We setup our servers (Running SCO UNIX 5.0.7) to use com1 with a external modem
From time to time this dial up fails to work, we have ways to test most of the components with the exception of the actual com port.
if there a way for me to test the com port to make sure is operational under UNIX?

Thanks

Joe

Earlier versions had uucp and you could cu -l ttyxx and talk to the modem.

In those earlier versions you could use uuinstall to create the entries in Devices that were needed to make the package usable.

Talking to the modem refers to the command set and the modem's response.

On the earlier ones I found that putting the uucp package in place and locking the modem speeds resolved most of my problems.
