working with package called Epager enterprise; does snmp trap managment. Unlike WUG I can't compile my own mibs in, I have to send them to the company and they send me back a compiled database. They do it free, that's not the problem. But getting the right mib is not easy. Cisco breaks them down into various files so you can get only the mibs you need, say envmon, stackwise, etc etc. The problem is the Cisco library is extensive and the company will not compile all the mibs, only a select few so I have to 'pick and choose'.
When I go to the cisco online locator, I put in my model and IOS version but still there are TONS of files both ver version 1 SNMP and version 2. How do you know which file your specific trap is going to need to decode? Moreover, no matter what model/ios i select, I always seem to come back to the same page, with the same two columns and endles rows of choices, but after downloading the files I suspect to be the ones I need, they seem to be exactly the same not matter which model/IOS version I selected.
If I could compile the mibs myself I would happily download everything on cisco's site then slowly delete the ones I don't need. This company however will not do that. I have to give them a handful of files for compilation.
So my first question is, how do I know which of the massive number of snmp trap mibs I need for the functions I've chosen to monitor? And once I find them, are they the same for all models of switches? what about for routers?
Thank you.
