How to tell users an Application update is available via internet 3

Is there a way, using VFP, to notify users of an application that an upgrade is available when the application is started?

The VFP application is installed on a users HDD and data can be there or on a network share.

I am about to email my users that an upgrade to my app is available and would like to add the above capability into my app ready for the NEXT upgrade.

I have a static IP and run a web server with ftp access 24 X 7.

Any help would be very welcome.

Here is the solution which I have adopted:

Using the Software Update Wizard with Visual FoxPro

It relies on a third-party product which is not free of charge, but it's not expensive either, and is simple and effective. I've used it on two separate projects.

Any routine, that would download a version info at startup (each start, daily, weekly whatever frequency is usual) could see, if a new version info is available.
