Is there a way to tell how fast a CD-Rom drive is if it doesnt say on the front (it doesnt say 42x or 56x or anything)

Get the model number of the drive and do a google search to find some one selling it. The specs are usually listed there.

redsss,

How new is the PC? Was it custom built, or did you buy it from a name brand vendor like Dell or Gateway? If so, post back with make/model.

Is there a reason for caring about the max speed? There's not a whole lot of difference between a 46x drive and a 52x one (maybe only as much as 3-4% at any one time). Remember, the average transfer rate of such drives are still only in the 20x range.

Search for a free tool called belarc advisor. It will run a quick diagnostic of your system and report many specs.
