Hi Bruce
Is it necessary to have same column common in all iqds ,if iam using more than 2 iqds in transformer as data source.please clear my doubt .

Yes & no, the same column has to match in each PAIR of IQDs. If they are all common fine & dandy. I suggest that you start off with one pair at a time & fine-tune as you go before adding another match.

Make sure that the matched pairs are spelled the same (capitalization counts, item <> ITEM), and the the entries within the fields are evidential. Then make sure that UNIQUE is turned on for these matched fields.

This is great for putting in customer names from the cust_address table, when the info from the GL account has only customer numbers listed.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately this is last on my "to-do" list right now. Job hunting 101 is taking all my time.

Cheers

Hi Bruce
I have one more doubt. If i have 2 to 3 different databases like oracle, sql server,ms access.if i want to use all the 3 databases as datasources in transformer,in this situation how can transformer will create joins between these data sources to give data related to a particular condition.shall i keep a column from one data source below the dimension or category of other database column.is it possible.please let me know clearly about this
Thanks

It gets a little more complicated, but not much. Make sure the columns you are "joining" on are the same type. Integer to text will not work & you will have to make some calculated fields to adjust. Note that Cognos documents state that transformer does NOT preform joins on IDQ, only similar. Therefor many of the complicated joins that you can do in SQL or Impromptu can't be done in transformer.

Also I found a problem with Excel files for numeric fields joining to number from an IQD, the excel field was off by a factor of 10 to the power of -8.

If I understand your question correctly, it does not matter where in the dimension you put things. As long as the association is OK between each pair you should be OK. As I said above, start with one pair of joins at a time to trouble shoot.

Good luck

Thanks for the encouragement. I just landed a job today (I've been out of work since May)! My wife is happy again.

Alas it's not in Cognos (boo hoo), as I am not certified with any of the their software nor have an IT background. However I am decent at moving data around & setting up CRM, ERP & reporting software (like Cognos), so improving their system of thousands of Excel files for each product/customer/quote should be easy. They have nothing & I want to get them an integrated program so they can see their data on one view. They have given me the OK to proceed as I see fit, but I am not certain (till I start) what their budget is.
