how to synchronize sql server 2000 and sql server ce

hi!

i have runned the sql ce samples successfully in the device emulator. my sql server 2000 and iis server are the same machine.
now i want to test the applications in a real device.
do i have to plug a ethernet card between the device and the pc or a serial cable is enough?

i tried to run the applications in the device but i wasn't able to connect to the server.
