How to swap scsi cdrom to ide version in W2000

I have a system with a scsi cdrom and scsi cdrw that I'm thinking of upgrading - but changing to ide versions, (partly for reasons of cost) - but I'm anticipating trouble with the swap, especially the cdrom as that's where W2000 was installed from.

As a test on a similar system that has only a scsi cdrw (no 2nd cdrom) I disabled the cdrw and uninstalled, but as expected the system wouldn't boot at all - in fact it wouldn't complete the p.o.s.t.

For W2000 OS repair and upgrade, not to mention the other apps, doesn't the registry or otherwise need to be updated somehow ? . . . that the cdrom from where they were loaded has now changed?

How do you do this swap without errors?

My system is this:
W2000
Asus A7V133
IBM 40G ide drive on prim. ide controller
Adaptec 2940 scsi card with
Toshiba scsi cdrom
Plextor scsi cdrw

Depending on where the CDRW is on the chain you may
or may not have to terminate it when you remove the CD-Rom.
If you remove both CD-Roms and you have external scsi devices then you will won't to terminate the scsi controller.
