When I change speaker volume using my "speaker" icon in the Notification Area of my Task Bar I get a loud Beep
[like the old chr(007)] sound

Workaround:
If I toggle the mute to on, make a volume adjustment then again toggle the mute back to off and avoid the beep.

Control panel sound has been changed to "no sound"

Only happens on one Dell Laptop with XP sp3 all upgrades

I'll try anything except dynamite.

Try the following at the commandline

net stop beep

sc config beep start= disabled

Where the heck did you learn this marvelous trick?
