Ok, I configured a Performance Monitor session 2 days ago. I remember specifying that it run for 3 days. But I want to stop it now...

I know it is still running because the alert that informs me when the processor gets over 50 % utilized is still working.

What can I do to stop perf mon from running? It seems to be degrading performance and I've collected enough info anyway.

Thanks, John

To 'stop' the trace, you need to stop and clear it.

Stop the trace:
sp_trace_setstatus <traceid>, 0

Clear the trace (does not clear the data):
sp_trace_setstatus <traceid>, 2

thanks SQLBill,

I tried setting the status to 0. But sysmonlog entries are still being logged according to Event Viewer.

Maybe it will stop after the 3 days expire. One problem I havfe is that I dont know the traceid value to use when I run the ...setstatus.
