Hi

Our Informix system is currently logging to the root user's mail.
Our supplier said "It comes from informix(ie XXXXX part of logical logs etc) itself and there is no way of turning this off."

At 2000+ messages/day this is a tad excessive.

The message body contains similar to the following:

LOG FILE FOR ARCHIVE REQUEST NUMBER : 00000577.

BACKUP/LOGFILE/CONTINUOUS/VSET=siipsvet_vop/LOG/AUTOVOP/NOAP
ART/NOCOMPRESS/COPIES=1/NOENCRYPT/NONOTIFY/BLOCKSIZE=65536/N
OTRANSIT/NOCRC/NOEXPIRY_DATE/NOVERIFY/NOIMMEDIATE
Logfile LF00000575 being processed.
Archive request 00000577 completed.

Is there anyway of stopping it?

Thanks
Kenton

Hi,

Archive requests fired through onarchive backup & restore utility gets initial parameters from a file called $INFORMIXDIR/etc/oper_deflt.arc

In this file you will see series of parameters preceded with /. You may change one such parameter /LOG to /NOLOG and see the difference.

Regards,
Shriyan

Thanks

However, this parameter is already set:
/NOAPART
/BLOCKSIZE=65536
/BRIEF
/NOCOMPRESS
/NOCRC
/NODECOMPRESS
/COPIES=1
/NODECRYPT
/DENSITY=0
/NOEXPIRY_DATE
/NOENCRYPT
/LEVEL=0
/NOLOG
/MAX_SPACE=0
/NONOTIFY
/PROTECTION=RWD
/NOTRANSIT
/NOVERIFY

Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Kenton:

BACKUP/LOGFILE/CONTINUOUS/VSET=siipsvet_vop/LOG/AUTOVOP/NOAP
ART/NOCOMPRESS/COPIES=1/NOENCRYPT/NONOTIFY/BLOCKSIZE=65536/N
OTRANSIT/NOCRC/NOEXPIRY_DATE/NOVERIFY/NOIMMEDIATE

The above log backup status line shows the parameter as LOG and not NOLOG. Would you check at your end for the proper status ?

Shriyan

Shriyan

I have searched everywhere and all I could find was a line in a script called siipslogback such:
$msg = qx($INFORMIXDIR/bin/onarchive << __EOF__ 2>&1
backup/logfile/continuous/vset=siipsvet_vop/log/autovop
exit
__EOF__);

could this be what is causing the problem?

Thanks
Kenton

Found it!
There is a bug in Informix Dynamic Server 7.3

A. Mail Generated When /NONOTIFY Flag Used (Resolution for PTS 34406)
ON-Archive always generates a mail even if you use the /NONOTIFY flag. Refer to Archive and Backup Guide, Version 7.3, page 8-19, 8-28, and 8-75.

Anyone know how to check on the progress of bug fixes?

Kenton
