I have inherited a Solaris 7 system that only boots up to the # prompt. Where do I start in order to make it come up
with the login screen ?

I know it requires X windows, but how do I check if X windows is running and how do I start X windows ?

Any help appreciated

Thanks
Umesh

If the soft is installed, you will find it under
/usr/openwin/bin for openwin or
/usr/dt/bin for CDE

Hi,
To add further to Ifoata's comments......
If u find the file dtconfig in /usr/dt/bin then give the cmd
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -reset(to enable X-windows session)
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e(To enable it to have X-windows upon startup)

If you are using CDE, dtlogin must be running. Use ps -ef to check for it.
If you are using openwindows, you might need to check the .login file to see if it calls openwindows. also, you might need a .xinitrc file.
When X is running, you should see a process with Xsun running. Use ps -ef to check for it.
