Dang it... when i was in Linux RH 9.0 all i did was
$ service vsftpd start

and it became magic....

now i am in RH 8.0... and ftp dont work... UGH... it says i need to start the thing in inetd or some thing like that.

So does anyone how i can start and stop the thing like i can in v9? Or whichever way, i just need to start ftp going.
