Are you intending to learn web design skills, with a view to becoming a web developer; or are you happily engaged with other skills, and just looking for some fast-and-dirty web presence.

If the former, then you should really start by learning HTML & CSS. W3Schools is good. is worth a look too. Check your local bookstore as well. It's not difficult, and you don't need much in the way of tools (search this forum for recommendations, it comes up a lot).

If you're looking for fast & dirty, look around for WYSIWYG editing packages. Dreamweaver is probably the best of these, but too expensive in this context. Search around for recommendations. Depending on what you're after, you might want to investigate getting a template from which to build your site.

Whatever you do, you're going to need a host for your pages (more searching around I'm afraid). That'll be where you'll need to upload your pages to, and point your domain name at.

I'm just learning and doing it for fun , nothing serious.

So I can just create some basic webpage ( or with some easy wizards) , looking for some flash based web page(is there any tool for beginners which will allow us to create a web page with flash on it?

--Thanks

Flash is seperate from HTML - if you wish to develop Flash, you should take a look at Macromedia's Flash software (Flash is a Macromedia product...there may be non-Macromedia alternatives but I'm not sure how legal or effective they are).

I would discourage you from Flash initially; there are many advantages to plain old HTML (including "searchability" - search engines can't index Flash content).

There are plenty of freeware WYSIWYG HTML editors available, and tutorials on developing HTML. Most WYSIWYG editors offer some sort of templating function, and you should be able to find appropriate templates online (although the editor may well have suitable templates included).

Does this HTML give me a way to put some good simple
background music as well ?

You can, but please don't... I beg you in the name of all that is good and holy... unless, of course, you are a musician in which case I'd still urge you to think about what the background music is bringing to the party so to speak.

Background music is one of the most hated and inappropriate things one can put on a web page.
It's up to you though.

Thanks guys for your replies.

All I wanted is a simple page like a greeting card and a
simple music at the background.

HTML is the best ?

Generally HTML will give you static images and text.

Flash, embedded into an HTML page, will allow you to create animations and interactivity within Flash.
Flash is an extremely powerful multimedia authoring tool, which isn't that hard to use badly, and very hard to use well.

You should be able to see how HTML and Flash are different from one another. If you don't see the difference then you may find it helpful to begin with a simple HTML tutorial (from w3schools.com for example).

However even if the flash content is indexed the Search engine can't provide a link directly to it. It sees the movie as a single document (depending how the site is constructed). Normally a flash site will be a stub movie that dynamically loads other movies into itself. The search engine will link to the stub movie.
The user will have to manually look for the content within the flash site.

HTML is your your foundation. If you must have Flash there are many low cost and easy to use options such as Swish. But HTML (or XHTML) is your foundation.

And I too beg you in the name of all that is good and holy... no music.

Hi

Just to add another word about background music's popularity.

The background music on web pages was the reason to not install ESD or any other driver which permit simultaneous access to the sound device for more then one applications.

Feherke.
