Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but take a look at the Right, Left and Mid functions....

Hi,

There is no way to SPLIT a cell. You can, however, split the VALUE in a cell, as Mike has suggested above, using STRING functions.

Skip,

Don't take a [red]FIFTH[/red] on the [red]THIRD[/red]
Or you might not come [red]FORTH[/red] on the [red]FIFTH[/red]

Check out thread68-1394204, just recently answered with multiple solutions.

One can Merge cells in excel. And if merged one can then unmerge them (which is a bit like splitting).
Select the cell(s)
Format, Cells, Alignment and (tick or) untick the Merge Cells box..

I avoid merging cells if I can possibly avoid it as it can cause complications later. Often folk (unnecessarily) merge cells when they could use Format,Cells, Alignment, horizontal, Centre across selection.

Of Data | Text to columns might do whatever it is you want to do.

I agree with Gavona, never merge cells. No good can come of it.
