Keywords are probably less important than they used to be. They should be separated with commas.

only yahoo I think - -G- even goes to far as to penalise you if you use keys not on the page.

It's a long-standing subject of controversy actually:

You can probably find a similar thread on every SEO forum =).

Bottom line is Yahoo is still a yes, but Google we don't really know, and since we don't know, then my approach would be to 'nuke em nowadays - why add unneccessary pageweight.

It was so easy 10 years ago to get rank using keywords hence they downgraded their value - which was the right thing to do. And keyword stuffing & spamming is still used by SEOs who are behind the curve, so it's reasonable to think that -G- and Y! probably do have some algorithm to deal with that - so my personal preference would be to play safe =)

But your mileage may vary

btw, wanted to add, one question that always bugged me for years was about how to use these with phrases. Say your page is about tall green widgets, do you do <keywords="tall, green, widgets">, or do you do <keywords="tall green widgets">. For what it's worth, it's the latter.
