HOW TO show a pic in console

Hey, i'm a newbie to graphics in C++, how can you show a picture in console mode - using any type of graphics system you choose to show me. Also, what is a good graphics sys to start out with - eg. OpenGL, etc.? Any code, or comments would be helpful.

If you want 3d graphics I would use OpenGL, If you want 2d graphics there is sdl (

and for both there is allegro, The one that I use. If you want to do your own graphics your going to need to use some assembly and stuff, but there are tutorials at
