hi.
I have a laptop with win98 on it and there is already in my apartment an internet connection with a cable modem for a desktop pc. How can I setup my laptop in order to connect it with the cable modem and surf the internet? (I dont care to connect the laptop to the other desktop pc).
I have a cable cat5 to connect the laptop to the modem.
thank you in advance

Is the cable modem connected to a switch or is it connected directly to the PC? If it is a single cable to the PC connection then you will either have to change it to a switch based connection or use ICS on the PC and then hook to the PC.

You get networking running if it isn't already. You add TCPIP with a fixed IP address, you connect the laptop to the modem, and you run the internet wizard and ask it to find the net using the LAN.
