I'm about to signup with a hosting service and have a question. I'd like to make my changes and see how they look and perform on the live site, before updating the site visitors actually see. I have Frontpage2002. Could I do something like clone my frontpage website here at home under a different web name, and somehow publish it to the live site under something other than index.htm - such as test.htm. Then could I go my normal page as a visitor, and type in ......test.htm? Or is whole concept of a test mirror site unworkable unless I buy another account?
Thanks for any suggestions.

You can create a subweb under the existing Web site. A subweb acts like a separate entity--you can use different shared borders, have different individuals edit it, etc.--but all under the same domain name. The easiest way to create a subweb is to simply create a folder with the name you want to call it. Then, in the Folder View, right click on the folder to bring up the shortcut menu. Select Convert to Subweb. If you have any files in the folder, it will break the links, so you'll need to fix those.

You can also post to - after signing up as a member, which is free. Be sure to check your max. files' total in MB with Tripod.

I've used this to validate test code, then either enabled this site or converted to another ISP Host. It works very well.
