Anybody has direction shows how to setup terminal system console through serial connection? Thanks.

Plug in a null modem cable to an ibm3151 or similar terminal. Or use a programme like HyperTerminal on your laptop.

Cheers

hello,

don't know if this is the case for you, but for information, when you install AIX on a system with a graphical adapter, then by default the connection through serial port is not activated.

You have to go smitty devices => add a tty (say tty1 on sa0, with rs232 protocol), and don't forget to put "enable" in the field "Enable login".

Beware of a small trick : if you see that, when trying to login with a null modem cable on the serial port, you are asked the login continuously and never have the password prompt, this means your cable is not fully rs232 compliant, try another cable :))

regards,

Hmm... Serial login works when I install on systems with a graphical adapter.

If it "rolls" after the login prompt you can also try to set the "clocal" option on the serial port. That usually works.

Cheers
