Hi Guys,

Have a question for you all, I am trying to setup 2 server 2003/2000 boxes so that each mirrors the other. IF one server goes down then the other can automatically pickup and perform Active Directory, DNS, Exchange... services OR with a little work can be up without much distruption.

I tried setting up 2 Small Business 2003 boxes but can not have domain trusts so that did not work. Can you advise if a sbs 2003 server and a standard server 2003 works and if anyone has any links to resources where i can read up on how to set this up.

Or is there another way i can establish redundancy so that if a server goes down im not in for days trying to get it back up, and disrupt work. BTW: the servers would handle only a small number or users less than 20.

Thanks again

You can have additional domain controllers in an SBS environment, but the SBS box must hold all FSMO roles.

You can't really do High Availability with Exchange. You'd have to use some third party solution such as Double Take or Never Fail.

DHCP can be setup using the 80/20 rule by Microsoft.

DNS would be redundant with two DCs.

Thanks for the info, one question though (sorry if this sounds newbish) If I have one SBS DC that holds FSMO can those rules replicate but stay inactive until required.

On a side note: I had tried to setup a PDC and BDC using 2 SBS 2003 boxes but the box kept shutting off after 5 days or soething liek that due to Microsofts EULA on SBS. So i was thinking if I got a SBS and standard windows box would replication work there? Or better to maybe just stay away from SBS and go with multiple standard 03 boxes. Darn i just love having most necesities combined in one package.
