how to setup jetdirect 170x

I just found a HP Jetdirect 170x laying around here at work, and i'm trying to get it to work with no instructions or software. I downloaded the HP jetadmin and installed it. but it doesn't detect my 170x. Where do i connect the patch cable to? When I try to connect it to a spare nic on my server, the light on the 170x doesn't go on. But when I connect it to a switch on the network, it goes on. I'm new the the 170x jet direct. Any info on how to get this working would be highly appreciated.

I read a lot from the link.. but it doesn't state where i should plugging in my patch cable.. either to the server directly or the network..

I don't know network stuff, the few things I;ve put together at home have just come up out of the box -- but I'd guess the switch a) since the purpose of switches is to connect things to the network and b) since the lights came on there.

I would then look at the manual for
a> someway to print or display the current internal settings.
b> the procedures to set it up and make it operational with a printer.
c> where is the reset switch.

Out of all that you have to make a decision whether to experiment with it the way it is, or to press the reset switch and then tinker.

If it still doesnt go, there're 3-4 choices of where to post with more ?s, I'm not sure which is the right spot;
here, one of the networking forums, the operating system forum of your machine, or the peripheral hardware forum.

You'll need to give a little information about your network and operating system and any information you've been able to gather about the current settings of the jetdirect and then maybe someone can help you go forward from there.
