Hi,

I am trying to setup my internal USR v90 modem(not win) on a Sun Blade. Does anyone have any instructions or know of a site that has this information. I have been spoiled by the new linux tools and have absolutely no clue how to setup the modem and PPP. Need help!!

Thanks,
Karl

Karl,
check out SUNs online documentation at Klick "Solaris 8", "Solaris 7", Search for "PPP" and take a look at "System Adminstration Guide Volume 3".
If you want to do the usual AT stuff on your modem (configuring and testing) use the Solaris tool tip (comparable to ate). Don't forget to put an appropriate entry into /etc/remote.
For example "modem:dv=/dev/cua/a:br#115200" would be correct if you use it on the serial port "a" with baud rate 11520.
If you could give me a tip why dialing our modem and beeing successfully connected doesn't yield to a login prompt on the callers site I would be curious to hear from you.
I already checked the files specific to "sac" and "zsmon" and everything looks OK. Besides nothing has changed since months and upto 2 weeks ago dialing and logging in worked perfectly.

Hi,Michael,
The web site ( you mentioned seems unreachable at all. I also face the problem to connect my Hayes Optima 336 external modem to my SUN Enterprise 220R to setup a dial-in server. However, when the modem being connected to 220R, it beeps as if it is going to dial out.
Any ideas? Thanks.
