We have NW Server (V5.1, 25-U) and GW (V5.5).
During initial installation, we installed an external modem to access or ISP. It worked
fine for sending email out, but we were neverable to get WS internet access going.
Several calls to Novell yielded no results.
Later, the phone company came in and installed a fractional T1 line and a Router.
We fixed its IP address to be compatible with our network. Now, all WS can access
the internet. We are using this IP address as a Gateway, so I presume the network
requests are not going through Novell, but directly to the router. This really isn't a
problem.
Now we want to eliminate the external modem for GW and use the T1 line for email.
When using NICE, there doesn't seem to be a way to set this up. It wants to bind
this to a "board". We have no board. It's through ethernet. Is the board the network
adapter? If so how is this configured? I tried adding another NIC, but same problem.
I'm lost! Any assistance is appreciated.
Possible clues: When configuring NICE or when using SMS Backup Administration,
the error "cannot set Domain Name" appears. NICE completes normally, but SMS
stops.

You need to check that your server can ping the Internet first, if not set up a static route. Then check that your ISP has a DNS setup for you with an MX record that points to your Gateway server IP Address. Then ypu can run NWADMIN from NEAT and use the Groupwise Settings in the Tools Menu to get to the GWIA settings so you can turn off the Dial Up settings and point GWIA to the Router. I don't have allthe details available right now but most of this is available in the Documentation.
