How to setup any console on sun 3500

Recently received a sun 3500 server from a business partner whom no longer has use for this server. I think we were given this box because it's broken.

When I first powered this server up, I was only able to get to the "OK" prompt.

With the SOlaris 5.8 OEM in the CD drive and executing the "boot cdrom", I thereafter receive the "unable to boot from device", or something like that. I even downloaded the 5.9 ISO and burnt these at 4 speed 1 track but I get the same error. I can't even do a "boot" and all of the devaliases are correct. I can't get to any OS.

I've entered some other goofey commands like autoboot false. Once I typed in reset, my display never came back. (boy I broke it!)

Problems:
1. When I power on the server, the cdrom immediately begins to flash quickly, steadily, and constantly.
2. I get no dislay on my SUN monitor. This is connected to the video board.


If someone can just help me to get a display going that would be great!

I've made a cable (9pin com1) and connected this to my PC for hyperterminal use (8-1-n-hardware) and the other end 25 pin to serial A and B, but I get no display.
pins 2 to 2, 3 to 3, and 7 to 5.

Try reseting the power and as it goes on hold down STOP + N, hold this down until the keys flicker (ie: caps lock, scroll lock, etc..) this will at least set the eeprom back to factory defaults, and then try booting off a cd-rom.

You can also try disconnecting keyboard - that should get your terminal connection going.
