Hi,

I have a test lab with a 2003 DC and exchange 07. I have 2 sites, with another 2003 DC in the 2nd site.

I'd like to configure a second exchange 07 server on the DC in site 2. I'm not sure on the best practice for this.

I'd like to have users in site 1 using exchange 1, with users on site 2 using exchange 2. I'd like the setup to be configured so that if exchange 1 fails, then users can still logon using site 2.

Do I need to configure clustering to do this?

Clustering isn't going to work like that. With clustering, all users are on one node, and when a failure occurs, switch to the other node.

You can use clustering, such as CCR clustering, along with log shipping to standby servers. But that's going require more servers.

You also can't cluster any role other than the mailbox server.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

Do you need users mailboxes on each site?
Do you need high availability?

What is your requirement?
Do you mean physical sites or Exchange sites?

If this is a lab, does it matter?
