Right now I am trying to make a document in InDesign. But instead of being in inches..the page size height and width are in 100p0. Where do you go to changed this to inches.

Also is there a place on the Adobe website where i can find a plug-in that I maybe missing. Because it will not let me open any PDF or illustator files in InDesign.

Thanks for the help

you can type in any units you want and it will convert them automitcally to the working space – but if you want to change them permanently, go to the preferences (under the illustrator menu on a mac) > units and display performance and choose from there. If you do this when you have no documents open, it will keep these preferences for all your docs.

You do not open these types of files (File->Open). These image files are PLACED. (File->Place)

another tip re. picas, inches and other measurements.

the preferences tip (mentioned above) is great for permanent changes. but there's a way to quickly flip between measurement types.

if, on the mac at least, you hold down ctrl and click in the ruler at the top of the page or side of the page then a submenu appears - allowing you to show measurements in points, picas, inches, centimetres....

good luck

You can change any measurement on the PC by right clicking on the ruler on either the horizontal or vertical rulers. You may also use any combination of units. Say pixels across the top for a web page and inches down the page for reference so it will stay printed on one sheet of paper.

Changing the measurment units in the preferences makes the setting universal across all measurement fields for the current document (and doing so with no document open does so for all new documents as well). If you control-click (or right-click) on the rulers, you're just changing the ruler measurements. I assume if Rody93 doesn't know what to do with picas and points on the ruler s/he won't want to have to use picas and points when entering the size of a frame, etc.

Remember, even if you're working in a unit of measurement such as inches and you want to temporarily use a different system (say mm for drop shadow amounts), simly type in the amount with the appropriate abbreviation (2mm) and InDesign will convert to inches (.0787"), or your preferred measurement for you.
