Here is the deal...I have seen this posted before but not explained how it was first accomplished...

I have a computer (mine) directly connected to cable router internet...it also has a D-Link wireless router attached to broadcast Wi-Fi to the laptop (wife's).

Now I have my HP printer hooked up via USB to my computer (mine).

Now since the laptop(wife) computer is able to grab the internet wirelessly then there should be able to have the computers share files and such (SOMEHOW???) but for now I would like to know how to set it up to where the laptop can hit "PRINT" and it would go directly to my computer to use the HP printer that is attached my computer to print.

On your machine share the printer (file and printer sharing active). On the laptop add printer, network printer, browse for it, should locate the printer on your computer.
There are several complications that get thrown in the way depending on operating systems, printer drivers, and how file and printer sharing is accomplished.

Also, make sure that on your wife's laptop you have set the printer connected to your PC as the default printer. Do this by right clicking the printer in your printers & faxes dialog and selecting "set as default printer". Also check your Windows firewall on your computer and make sure that file and printer sharing is allowed. (This is all assuming you're using Windows XP).

I use ZoneAlarm for firewall and don't see a setting that would stop the sharing...

both computers have the driver installed...when i browse nothing shows up...

I have the identical set up and problem. Both machines are XP Pro When I browse to add the printer, I can see the computer with the uad printer, but the printer does not show. When I type in the share name of the printer, I get the message that I do not have sufficient permissions. Any idesa of the problem?

Just a thought, but do you have appropriate username/passwords on both PCs? I have found that I could only get file sharing to work when I made sure that I was connecting to the other PC with a username/password that was valid on that PC.

what do you mean appropriate username and passwords..on both machines it is set to log on automatically when you turn them on... default log in is administrtors settings on account.

This problem bit me before.

On all your PCs, make sure NetBios over TCP is enabled:

Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, select your connection, and right-click on Properties.

Scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click the Properties button.

On the General tab, click Advanced.

On the WINS tab, make sure "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" is checked.
