How to set up fax machine extension to use a specific Trunk Group

Good evening,

I did some searching on here to find the best way to route outgoing calls from a fax extension to a specific Trunk Group. The only examples I found was how to accomplish this on a CM with partition route tables. The switch I need to set this up on is a Prologix G3 V6, which doesn't have that feature set. I tried tinkering with giving the fax extension a specific COR and setting up a different FAC, but nothing seems to work.

The reason for the specific routing is that faxes don't seem to send nicely through their Spectrum lines, and want to use their POTS CO line for faxes.

I'm not sure what information you'll need from me, so let me know and I can provide you with specifics...

Thanks!

I think you can accomplish this by giving the fax a COR with a higher FRL than other extensions. Then set the POTS line as the first trunk in the route pattern(s) with the same level FRL. The other stations wouldn't be able to use the POTS because of their lower FRL so it would skip and move to the next trunk group in the route pattern. Set up a test ARS entry and test route pattern to see if it works.

I seem to be missing something here. The POTS line is the only trunk assigned in Trunk Group 2. So I set up the fax line with COR 9 which has an FRL of 7. I then set up Route-Pattern using group 2 and FRL of 7. It doesn't look like there's anything to change in the ARS Analysis. Please see below...

what else am I missing here?

Thanks again...

When the fax machine dials a number then the dialed digits will match a pattern in ARS to determine what route pattern to use. You'll need to add trunk 2 as the first point in your existing route patterns because you're not going to create an ARS entry for each fax number that could be dialed.

Sean,

I guess I'm not understanding what I need to do. Am I changing route-pattern 1 to look like this...?

Code:
change route-pattern 1 Page 1 of 1
                            Pattern Number: 1

Assuming trunk 1 is your Spectrum trunk group, yes. You should test it out by programming a specific phone number in ARS using a test route pattern set up the way you showed above to make sure a regular phone can make a call without any issues

The feature you're looking for is called partition routing. Hit the search button above and search for "partition". It's meant to do exactly what you're doing.
