Hi All,
I have an iMac on OS9.2, I would like to set up dual monitors by adding an old PC monitor. As an non-technical person, can anyone tell me in basic terms what connectors/adapters I would need to buy and how I would get them working together.

Thanks very much
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie

If your iMac has an external VGA port then just simply plug in the external monitor and turn it all on. When you go to the monitors control panel - it will have altered into 2 panes. You can move the small windows depending on how you have your actual monitors set up. It really is very cleverly done and requires no additional software installation.

Let us know how you get on.

Kind Regards
Duncan

Duncan is right - if your iMac has an external video port you're golden. Note that it may not look like a standard monitor connector it might be a digital video out or similar. Look for the video symbol "|O|".

If you don't have an external video connector, you're out of luck - iMacs don't have much expandability.

Thanks guys, yes I think its about time I upgraded my old iMac at home - 5 years old now and no external VGA port :-(

Hi Stephanie

Can you tell me exactly which iMac you have? There is a chance it could have a VGA connector. For example, all the iMac DV machines did have - and maybe others...

The iMac DV hid its connector behind a plastic tab at the back of the machine - in a similar fashion to where the RAM is stored

Kind Regards
