how to set up computers for direct connect ..

I need to back up data on several pc's in my office. We are not currently on a network. I recently purchased a direct cable that works on the parallel port.

How do I have to set up the computers to be able to copy data from a pc to my laptop computer via the direct connect cable? Or refer me to some publication covering that topic please. I will be backing up to a CDRW drive on my Dell notebook computer.

Not really the right forum for this type of question - I would list it in the XP forum or such like.

However, in an attempt to help, can you provide what version of OS you are using, as this may have a bearing on the best method of backing up.
