hi there, i got a strange problem that some web dns query tools saying my dns server "ipv4 address" not equal to "ipv4 glue", e.g.
donamin name / ipv4 addr / ipv4 glue
dns1.mydomain.com / 11.22.33.44 / 55.66.77.88

my dns server is bind9 on ubuntu10, i couldn't find anywhere to setup/change "ipv4 glue"

sorry that i'm not that familiar with bind9 or ubuntu10, wondering where on earth i can set/change the "ipv4 glue"?

million thanks in advance!

A glue record is used to solve a "which came first, the chicken or egg" type problem. In your case, you have a domain called mydomain.com and you want the name server to be dns1.mydomain.com. This creates a circular dependency where you need to know what mydomain.com is to find dns1.mydomain.com which is a subdomain, but to get mydomain.com you need to know what dns1.mydomain.com is.

In order to break this circular dependency, you use what is called a glue record. A glue record maps an IP address to the name server for a domain in cases like this. The glue record is stored in the parent domain, which in your case would be .com. There should be a setting on your registrar's page to allow you to create a glue record, which is needed when you host the DNS on the domain and should simply be the IP address of your name server.
