Hi,
How can I set IE so that on any .pdf it will open my 'real' Acrobat instead of 'faking' acrobat in the same ie window?

It's monumentally annoying that it opens the the .pdf file in the same broser window and 'converts' the ie window to look like Acrobat. When I'm done reading the .pdf, I instinctively close 'Acrobat', which is actually IE, and lose my 'back' history, etc.
Thanks,

There is nothing "fake" about Acrobat opening the file.

Try:

. open the hyperlink with a right-click, open in new window instead of a double-click;

. In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, uncheck 'Disable windows for launching shortcuts.'

Try setting this from the Acrobat file menu "File > Edit > Preferences where you'll see the option to display "pdf's" in a browser window.

Deselect this option in order to make Acrobat Reader the default application...

Thanks for your replies. What I meant by 'fake' was that what I see normally as an IE window has now changed to look almost identical to Acrobat (or Acroread or whatever it is). This is what throws me off--it used to be that if I opened a pdf even from an ie link, it would automatically open up an instance of Acrobat--not convert the ie window to 'look like' acrobat.

I was hoping there was a way to globally do this, that is, to not have to right-click and do the 'new window' thing--but to just essentially say: "never open .pdf's in ie, always open acroread instead as a separate instance".
