how to set cellpadding

Working on the 5th version of my new template (still having problems getting it to work).

The designer I hired set it up so I can't add the needed cellpadding.

The content section, as you can see, is on the side of the bar to it's left. I need it spaced off of there (maybe around the same starting point as the first button).

I cannot set this in HTML in the table cellpadding as it destroys the template.

Is there a way to make a SPAN or DIV tag wrap around the entire text section and have it fake cellpadded?

You could put a div inside the content area and give it appropriate margins to make it look the way you want it to look. But I would not use a table for the site layout to begin with.
